Nature magnet is important knowledge for students to know in general. Magnetic objects are often found in everyday life. An object can be said to be a magnet if it has magnetic properties.

One of the properties of a magnet is that it attracts metal objects. Apart from that, there are several other magnetic properties that can be found in a magnetic object.

Quoting from the book entitled Mini Smart Book for Middle School Physics, Hendri Hartanto, S.Pd, ‎Aqla Aksara (2015: 306), magnetism or magnetism is the ability of an object to attract other objects around it. Magnets have several properties that can characterize an object as having magnetic properties.

One of the properties of magnets that can be found around us is that metal objects that have a magnetic force will attract them thing which have opposite magnetic poles. However, if similar magnetic poles on two objects are brought close to each other, repulsion will occur between the two objects.

Not only that, magnets have other properties that can be seen if a bar magnet is cut. After the magnet is cut, the poles will remain the same. The north pole and south pole of a magnet cannot be separated.

Quoting from the book entitled Integrated Science: Volume 3BMikrajuddi, et al (2007: 4), if a magnet is cut in two to separate its north pole and south pole, then a new north pole and south pole will be formed on both pieces of the object.

Based on this explanation, it can be concluded that the properties of magnets include:

In general, magnets are divided into several forms. Various shapes of magnets include bar magnets which resemble blocks, cylindrical magnets which resemble long tubes, needle magnets which resemble a compass needle with both pointed ends, and ring magnets.

The various properties of magnets and their various shapes can be used as useful additional knowledge. Especially for student who just learned the magnetic properties of an object. (DAP)
