Next week, Prince Harry, without wife Meghan by his side, returns to Britain for the tenth anniversary of the Invictus Games he created for para-athletes where wounded soldiers compete in different sports.
The prince is expected to meet his father King Charles but not his brother Prince William during the three-day visit.
As far as sister-in-law Kate is concerned, however, the situation is more unclear. It will be the first time Harry has visited his former homeland since Kate came out with her cancer diagnosis.
Harry called Kate ‘the sister I never had’
Court expert Ingrid Seward considers it “extremely unlikely” that William would want to meet his brother at the moment after everything that has happened. However, she says that William is aware that Harry will want to meet Kate “because they were once so close”. In his memoirs, Harry called Kate “the sister I never had but always wanted.”
– It remains to be seen if Kate is both ready and willing to face it. Does she have the energy to try to heal the rift between the brothers or does she prefer to stay in the background?, says Seward.
Either way, Seward is convinced that one thing is required for Kate to agree to meet Harry.
– If the king asks her, she will do it. But since Charles is a sensitive and understanding person, it is unlikely that he would ask his beloved daughter-in-law for such a favor. The time has to be right and it’s not now, says Seward.
Charles has also been affected by cancer recently. When Kate came out with her cancer diagnosis, Charles said he was “so proud” of her and that they “remain in close contact” with each other. Sources have said the king regards Kate “as a daughter”.
