According to JN, Lieutenant Afonso Viana will have to present himself this Monday morning to the national commander of the UEPS, Brigadier General José Rodrigues, allegedly to explain why he had no military personnel for policing.

The first information points to the fact that the majority of soldiers from the 11th Company of the UEPS (which succeeded the GIPS) are on medical leave and are therefore unable to participate in the security of this Sunday’s Vizela – Vitória SC football match.

This situation will have prevented the deputy commander from fulfilling the order to advance with soldiers to Vizela, as many personnel from the Braga GNR Command are on leave.

On the other hand, that officer allegedly claimed that the few soldiers available did not have enough protective material (helmets, shields, visors and armor), which did not go down well with his hierarchy.

It is known, on the other hand, that the Braga Territorial Command of the GNR even had to use military personnel from patrols from various posts, such as those in Vila Verde, to police the aforementioned football game.

JN tried to speak with Lieutenant Afonso Viana, but this was not possible on Sunday night.

Afonso Manuel da Mota Viana is a young officer who is considered and known in Braga, also for his volunteering activities: he was an operational member of the Braga Volunteer Fire Department and a regular collaborator at the Braga Central Hospital.
