Jakarta – The appearance of Gog and Magog include signs of the end. They are referred to as creatures that will cause damage to the earth later.

Yusman bin Muhammad Yusuf in his book entitled Al-Makru Revealing the Veil of the Gog and Magog Identity states that Gog and Magog are an unjust group. They will also spread slander and become the source of all existing slander.

The existence of Gog and Magog is also mentioned in surah Al Kahfi verse 94,

They said, “By the Qur’an, indeed, Gog and Magog are making mischief on earth. Shall we grant you an allowance that you put a barrier between us and them?”

Meaning: “They said: “O Dzulkarnain, indeed Gog and Magog are the ones who cause destruction on the face of the earth, so can we give you something in payment, so that you build a wall between us and them?”

Ibnu Katsir in his book An Nihayah Fitan wa Ahwal Akhir az Zaman (Mukhtashar Nihayah al Bidayah) translated by Anshori Umar Sitangan and Imron Hasan said that Gog and Magog are ordinary humans like other people. They once lived like humans, but liked to cause trouble and cause commotion.

Physical Characteristics of Gog and Magog

Referring to the same source, Gog and Magog are said to be descendants of Noah AS. They are the descendants of Yafits bin Nuh AS who are the ancestors of the Turkish nation.

They have sunken eyes, flat noses and blonde hair. Their skin shape and color varies.

Explained in the book Authentic History Zulkarnain compiled by Muhammad Khair Ramadan Yusuf, Ya’juj Ma’juj can multiply or produce offspring rapidly until they number many, as explained in the hadith.

From Abu Said RA, the Prophet SAW said:

“Allah SWT said to Adam AS (on the Day of Judgment), ‘Bring out those who are sent to Hell.’ Adam AS asked, ‘How many people were sent to hell?’ Allah SWT said, ‘From every 1000 people, 999 people are removed’.”

Rasulullah SAW said, “At that time, children suddenly turned gray, pregnant women miscarried and people were in a state of intoxication, in fact they were not drunk but because of the terrible punishment of Allah SWT.”

Confused by the words of the Prophet SAW, the companions asked, “O Messenger of Allah. Who is meant by one among the 1000?” He replied, “Rejoice because among the 1000, you are one while there are 1000 of Gog and Magog.” (HR Bukhari & Muslim)

Where did Gog and Magog come out?

Quoting Asyrath As-Sa’ah Al-Alamat Al-Kubra by Mahir Ahmad Ash-Shuffy translated by Badruddin et al, Gog and Magog came out from the place where they were confined, namely a big mountain in Turkey. After leaving, they headed towards the dead sea area.

In the Dead Sea, they drink all the sea water. From there they headed towards Baitul Maqdis in Palestine.

Thus, the place where Gog and Magog came out was near the dead sea area.

Gog and Magog came out when Jesus AS descended to Earth

Gog and Magog came out when Prophet Isa AS came down to earth after killing the Dajjal. After Dajjal perishes, Jesus AS is known to have lived on earth for some time. It was during that period that the troublemaking creature emerged. But of course with the permission of Allah SWT, and He is the one who knows best.

When the time came for Gog Magog to appear, Isa AS was ordered by Allah SWT to save the believers who were with him by going up to the mountains (hills) to guard against those who came out like the waves of the ocean.

No one knows where and where Yaj’uj Ma’juj will go. Also no one can approach them. In fact, no one can fight them. So Allah SWT ordered him to hide.

After staying on earth for some time, then they were destroyed by Allah SWT in one night with the blessing of the prayer of Prophet Isa AS. That is, He sent a plague of caterpillars that attacked Gog and Magog until they were destroyed.
