In Baldone, on April 27 of this year, the final of the 2024 mixed doubles championship of the Republic of Latvia in Novus was concluded. In total, 53 mixed pairs teams from all over Latvia competed.
In order to reach the finals, it was necessary to overcome 2 rounds – the quarter-finals and the semi-finals. The championship started on March 30. For the first time in recent history, 3 couples from Liepāja reached the final – I. Strakšs together with R. Kudu (Liepājas Senioru Sporta klubs (LSSK)/Liepājas Novusa klubs (LNK), I. Rugevics together with D. Vicinskas (LSSK/LNK) and E Braslis-Bērziņš together with K. Brasli-Bērziņš.The 20 best mixed doubles pairs from Latvia competed.
The highest place was won by R. Kuda/I from Liepāja. Strakshas, who ranked in the high 4th place. I. Rugevics/D. Vicinska ranked in the high 7th place, while E. Braslis- Bērziņš/K. Brasle Bērziņa ranked 8th.
S. Skalbe (Valmiera) together with U. Kampān (Cesvaine) became the champions of the Republic of Latvia. In 2nd place Kurzemnieki – A. Tindenovskis (Talsi) together with I. Dziesma (Kuldiga), and in 3rd place I. More together with D. Gordejeva (Rīdzene).
All Liepaja mixed doubles pairs participated in the competition with the support of the city of Liepaja.
The fights in the final turned out to be very intense and fierce. This was evidenced by the dense tournament table. The champions won 24 points, the 2nd place – 23 points, and the 3rd to 5th place had the same number of points – 22.
