Pep Guardiola has commented on the announced resignation of Liverpool coach Jürgen Klopp. He doesn’t believe his career will end.

Manchester – Pep Guardiola and Jürgen Klopp have been fighting the most exciting duels in the Premier League for years. Since the Spaniard’s arrival at Manchester City, the Liverpool coach has been one of only two coaches to win the Premier League with his club.

Guardiola will miss Klopp: “It’s a shock for all of us”

In a few months, the title fights between Klopp and Guardiola will be a thing of the past, at least at national level. Because it has been clear since Friday afternoon (January 26th) that Klopp and Liverpool will part ways at the end of the current season.

His long-time adversary Guardiola reacted to this around the FA Cup game against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday evening. Although he would “sleep better” in the future, as he said with a wink, he also admitted: “Of course he will be missed. It was a shock for everyone.”

Pep Guardiola believes Jürgen Klopp will make a comeback

The 53-year-old does not believe that Klopp will now permanently say goodbye to coaching. “Maybe it’s just me and he won’t admit it, but he’ll be back. I know it. “Football needs managers and personalities like him,” said the Man City coach about the “best rival I’ve ever had.”

Klopp will first take a one-year break before possibly returning to the coaching chair – and perhaps even with the German national team? Julian Nagelsmann’s contract expires after the 2024 European Championships, discussions about possible continued employment or a successor should only take place after the tournament.

Pep Guardiola can imagine Jürgen Klopp as national coach

Klopp may not return until he has completely recovered. Possibly even as a national coach, as Guardiola further speculated. German fans will probably like this statement.

But first there is still the fight for the championship, Liverpool leads the table with one more game, five points ahead of the “Citizens”. There will be a showdown at Anfield Road on March 9th – and possibly the last duel between the two coaches for the time being. (masc)
