Bulgaria looks extremely bad in the eyes of Europe, claims the resigned adviser

Meglena Plugchieva resigned as an adviser to Dimitar Glavchev because he did not listen to her to look for a career diplomat as foreign minister, and she did not consider it possible for him to combine the posts of prime minister and foreign minister. The former ambassador and BSP MP rejected his offer to become a minister. This became clear from the words of Plugchieva herself this evening.

“I’m of the principle that if I can’t be effective with my experience and advice, there’s no reason to stand around and build up expectations that I’ll deal with all the problems. I take responsibility where I can actually fulfill my commitments. There , where my experience and advice are not used, there is no need to stand”, Meglena Plugchieva, the former adviser to Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev, commented in the program “Speak Now” on BNT.

According to her, due to the political situation, Bulgaria looks extremely bad in Europe – some countries ignore us, and the others do not know how to react.

She personally recommended Glavchev to choose a diplomat for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, because in the current situation this would be the best working solution.

“I can only wish strength and success to Mr. Glavchev – this is a Herculean task”.

Plugchieva refused to take over the ministry and the reason is the principle that the caretaker government is expert.

“The request of a caretaker government was to be made by politically neutral experts. I have always been part of the political quota of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I thought it was proper to really observe the principle away from any political coloring. In this situation, it would have been good to be at the helm a career diplomat, with several mandates, not a consul or an ambassadorial mandate. During the administration of PP-DB, the impression was created that anyone can become a minister, I do not share this suggestion in society, even more so with regard to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented Plugchieva.

She described the latest decisions of the office as “firefighters”.

“At the moment, a fire is being extinguished at the energy companies, but it is postponed for a year because it is included in the Recovery Plan. Also at the farmers, in order to look for an opportunity to pay the Ukrainian aid – not a single lev was included in the budget that remained inheritance from PP-DB and with the support of GERB and DPS. Funds from co-financing of European projects had to be urgently sought in order to satisfy the demands of the farmers,” explained Plugchieva.
