Wednesday afternoon, a major commotion took place in the area of rue Saint-Jacques and avenue Addington. Suspected car thieves in a Honda CR-V vehicle allegedly drove towards police officers. At least one SPVM agent then allegedly drew his service weapon and opened fire, hitting the driver.

In the afternoon, TVA Nouvelles went to meet his brother, Jonathan Larue, in front of the Montreal General Hospital. He provided us with photos of Michael Larue who allegedly received at least three projectiles…

Jonathan Larue admits that his brother has a history of auto theft and that he even served time in prison in Alberta in connection with this type of crime. However, he does not believe for a second that Michael Larue could have rushed towards a police officer.

“If a situation arose, he would have wanted to go around the police and not rush into them. His goal is not to kill a police officer,” he maintains.

The brother of the alleged car thief adds that the Honda CR-V had been rented by his mother. His brother would therefore not have stolen it, but rather borrowed it, even though he does not have a driving license.

That said, the family believes that the police could have acted differently without using their service weapon.

“He was shot three times: one in the jaw, one in the neck and one in the shoulder where there is currently no more blood circulating because it severed the artery. Currently, he is still on the operating table two days later having a complete jaw done because he no longer has a jaw and teeth in his mouth,” explains Jonathan Larue.

“He didn’t deserve what happened to him,” he adds.

The Bureau of Independent Investigations and the SQ are trying to shed light on this story. The BEI declined to comment.
