A Journey Through Healthcare Commentary
My journey began in 2005 with the launch of the Health Business Blog. The goal was simple: to offer informed perspectives on the evolving healthcare landscape. Over time, the blog gained traction, leading to the rebranding of my consulting firm as Health Business Group – a testament to the blog’s growing influence.
In 2007, I began incorporating audio interviews with healthcare CEOs, anticipating the podcasting wave. A pivotal moment arrived in 2014 with a series of interviews with all nine candidates for Massachusetts Governor,aiming to elevate the discussion around healthcare policy.
The rise of CareTalk and the HealthBiz Podcast
In 2017, I partnered with John Driscoll (now Chairman of the UConn Health System) to co-host CareTalk. We initially recorded monthly, experimenting with different formats. The arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 prompted us to shift to weekly remote recordings, providing timely analysis during a critical period.
Our producer, Vincent Grippi, skillfully propelled CareTalk to the top ranks on platforms like Apple Podcasts and YouTube. Simultaneously, in September 2020, I transitioned the Health Business blog into a fully-fledged podcast – the HealthBiz podcast – with Dafna Williams taking the helm as producer. We’ve since released over 200 episodes, covering a wide range of healthcare topics.
A Successful Experiment Leads to Integration
In 2024, we tested the waters by integrating “HealthBiz Briefs” into the CareTalk channel. The positive response and increased engagement demonstrated the synergy between the two platforms.
This success paved the way for a complete integration.In 2025, HealthBiz is fully joining CareTalk, offering listeners a consolidated source of insightful healthcare commentary.
