According to the Hoogeveen D66, a disturbing trend is visible in which the vaccination rate among children is declining throughout the country. “The number of vaccinated children is also declining in Drenthe.”

In Hoogeveen, the number of vaccinated babies has now fallen below the critical limit of 95 percent. “A high vaccination rate is essential to combat the spread of serious infectious diseases such as measles, mumps, whooping cough and polio. The current measles outbreak in Eindhoven and the recent reports of children dying from whooping cough show that municipalities, together with the central government, must intervene quickly to prevent multiple outbreaks,” says Marin Rutgers of D66.

Questions for college

Rutgers and Erica Blenkers (VVD) have asked the Hoogeveen council written questions. They would like to know what is being done in the municipality to get the vaccination rate up to standard, but they also want to know how the municipality is preparing for a possible outbreak of whooping cough or measles.

‘To combine forces’

Erica Blenkers emphasizes: “It is essential that we as a community join forces to increase vaccination rates and protect the health of our citizens.”

Marin Rutgers adds: “Collaboration between all parties involved is vital to address misconceptions about vaccination and ensure that all residents of Hoogeveen have access to reliable information about vaccination.”
