ATTEMPTED MURDER – THE BLOOD OF OUR COLLEAGUES HAS BEEN SHED
This morning, the Aix-Luynes Penitentiary Center became the scene of a horrific event, as an inmate, previously known for two prior assaults at the Avignon-Le Pontet correctional facility and the Grasse detention center, attempted to murder two of our colleagues.
Wielding a pair of scissors, the assailant stabbed a supervising officer in the carotid artery before repeatedly attacking him as he lay on the ground. A second officer also sustained severe injuries, and both were urgently evacuated for medical attention, with one in critical condition.
Only the heroic intervention of a third colleague prevented the attacker from completing his act and perhaps claiming the supervising officer’s life. Without their composure and bravery, this aggression would have resulted in an irreparable tragedy.
The UFAP unsa Justice PACA CORSE is deeply shocked by these events. We extend our heartfelt wishes for a swift recovery to our injured colleagues, offering our thoughts to them, their families, and all personnel at Aix-Luynes who have been traumatized by this barbarity.
This was a deliberate attempt on a life, a truly barbaric act.
Our colleagues are left to fend for themselves against individuals who disregard rules, within an environment were security is an illusion. It is imperative that the state reassert its authority within its prisons!
FORCE MUST PREVAIL OVER LAWLESSNESS!
Every day, our colleagues risk their lives. Each day, the Administration overlooks critical security flaws. There is a glaring lack of both human and material resources, coupled with a perceived impunity for violent detainees. This culture of laxity and normalization comes at a steep price.
The administration must accept responsibility for these failures.
Our colleagues are not expendable!
