Although their Eurovision Song Contest adventure was very successful, Waylon (43) and Ilse DeLange (46) parted ways afterwards with some disagreement. In the new ‘LINDA.’ Ilse tells about this period and explains the reason for the breakup of The Common Linnets.

“Waylon wanted to tackle that in a way that I didn’t think was possible”

Ilse appears to have made an appropriate album. Tainted is about fractures in all kinds of forms, whether in love, a friendship or a working relationship. She has the necessary experience in the latter area: she and Waylon participated in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2014 as the formation The Common Linnets. They managed to go far and finished second. They could not enjoy their joint success for a very long time, because shortly after the Eurovision Song Contest they announced their musical separation.

“Our success during the Eurovision Song Contest – ‘Calm After The Storm’ was number one in fourteen countries – led to many opportunities coming our way,” Ilse explains. According to her, that is where the disagreement arose. “Waylon wanted to tackle that in a way that I didn’t think was possible, so I said: ‘I’m going to jump on that train anyway. Participate or not, but I’ll jump on it.'” Because Ilse herself had tried to break through before. in America and Germany, she said she knew how rare the opportunity they had at the time was.

Waylon decided not to jump on that train. “When he didn’t want to come, I thought: I’ll see what crumbs are left,” Ilse remembers. Together with the songwriters of ‘Calm After The Storm’ she decides to tour in Germany and with success. “We are now ten years later and still successful in Germany. There turned out to be more than enough crumbs.”
