Current Situation and Response
As of January 26, 2026, two patients have tested positive for the Nipah virus. Approximately 190 individuals who were in contact with these patients have been placed under quarantine,and those exhibiting symptoms are undergoing testing,according to Subarna goswami,the Deputy Director of Health for the Government of West Bengal,as reported by the ANI news agency.
The National Center for Disease Control (NCDC) has activated emergency protocols, issuing a technical circular detailing the virus’s characteristics and urgent preventative measures. These protocols aim to contain the outbreak and protect the population.
Strengthening Hospital Safety Measures
The ministry of Health has directed hospitals in the affected region to enhance safety protocols. This includes mandatory use of complete personal protective equipment (PPE) for all medical personnel, addressing concerns about human-to-human transmission.
