More than 66,000 influenza vaccines have been distributed in Chuquisaca health centers since this Thursday, after the number of cases tripled compared to 2023. The Departmental Health Service (Headquarters) announces that immunization will be prioritized for groups vulnerable such as people over 60 years of age, children under 12 and those with underlying pathologies.

To date, Chuquisaca reports 182 cases of influenza, twice more than the total number recorded last year, 63.

Of the 182 patients, 80 have already recovered and 102 remain active: Sucre is the municipality that reports the highest number of active patients with 57; then there are Macharetí with 32 and Muyupampa with 13.

Chuquisaca received 66,070 influenza vaccines this week: 21,260 pediatric doses and 44,810 for adults.

The head of Epidemiology at Headquarters, César Ríos, informed CORREO DEL SUR this Thursday that this number of doses received corresponds to 50% of what was requested from the Ministry of Health. “There is a commitment so that the remaining 50% can arrive in May,” he added.

He said that immediately after the arrival of this batch to the city, the distribution of the vaccines began to all first-level health centers and short-term health insurance companies.

They are distributed according to the population size of the municipalities.

“In this first phase we are going to prioritize risk groups, that is, people over 60 years of age and with underlying pathology and children under 12 years of age. We want to massify vaccination coverage, in this way avoiding complications due to this virus that is circulating like Covid-19,” Ríos anticipated.

He explained that the vaccine has components against three subtypes of influenza viruses: two strains of influenza A viruses and one of influenza B, which are circulating on the continent.

“We call on people to go to health and health insurance clinics to get vaccinated and have their children vaccinated,” the official urged, clarifying that the vaccine is voluntary.
