Insta360 has officially expanded its lineup with the launch of the Insta360 X6, a 360-degree action camera built around dual Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors.
According to product specifications, the technical improvement in the X6 is its capability to capture 8K video at 50 frames per second, a notable step up from the 30 fps limit of its predecessor. The device also introduces replaceable, scratch-resistant lenses designed to be five times more durable than those used on the X5.
Designed for demanding environments, the body of the X6 houses a 2,600 mAh battery capable of delivering up to 140 minutes of continuous recording at 8K and 30 fps. The hardware package is available in two distinct color options and features a 2.3-inch color touchscreen display for frame composition and camera control. Despite integrating larger image sensors, the physical chassis of the X6 has been engineered to be slightly shorter and lighter than the previous generation.
Advanced Sensor Performance and High-Resolution Frame Rates
The integration of dual 1/1.1-inch square Sony sensors represents a leap in imaging capability. Paired with dedicated onboard artificial intelligence processing chips, the larger sensors allow the X6 to achieve substantially improved low-light performance.
Beyond its 8K50 capability, the camera offers high-frame-rate shooting modes. Creators can record in 6K resolution at 120 fps or drop down to 4K resolution at 240 fps. For still photography, the device outputs 120-megapixel 360-degree panoramas. Additionally, the software architecture allows users to operate the device as a single-lens action camera when traditional framing is preferred.
