Gen 2 NPU expected from Intel and AMD with Lunar Lake and Strix Point

At least according to Build 26100 of the next Windows 11 update, the feature currently called “AI Explorer” will only work on PCs with an ARM64 CPU, 16 GB of RAM and at least 225 GB of storage capacity, and the hardware ID QCOM0D0A is also explicitly required, i.e. a Snapdragon X Elite Chipset. It is currently unclear whether the Snapdragon X Plus chips will probably officially launch next week from Qualcomm will be compatible, but it will probably be an exclusive feature for Windows-on-ARM chips for the foreseeable future.

It is not yet completely clear why Microsoft does not consider the current x86 architectures from Intel and AMD to be good enough. Aside from a potential marketing move in coordination with Qualcomm, it is of course conceivable that the NPU currently used in Intel’s Meteor Lake and AMD’s Ryzen 8000 chips with 10 TOPs and 16 TOPs respectively is simply not fast enough for the task. For comparison: Qualcomm advertises the NPU with 45 TOPS Snapdragon X Elite. Only with the next Intel and AMD generations “Lunar Lake” and “Strix Point“More powerful NPUs are likely to come from Team Blue and Team Red.

Microsoft is expected to officially unveil Windows 11’s upcoming AI features at the Build developer conference on May 21st. Previously known as Windows 12 24H2 Version will already be installed on the Snapdragon Become Microsoft. This will allow you to search and find all past PC activities using voice, and voice control of applications will generally be taken to a new level.
