The Lancet drone is widely considered one of Russia’s best weapons: this unmanned aircraft equipped with an anti-tank warhead alone is responsible for a very large proportion of Ukrainian vehicle losses. It is a kamikaze drone capable of disabling most Ukrainian armored vehicles with a well-aimed hit. The weapon is so effective that it has been copied by the Ukrainians, this project is currently running under the nickname “ukrolancet”.
A recording has now appeared, which shows how a Lancet drone targets an American-made M1A1 Abrams tank somewhere around Avgyijivka. The plane probably belongs to the 47th mechanized brigade, the video was probably made 1-2 weeks ago, since then the Abrams tanks were withdrawn from the front.
You can clearly see in the recording: the Abrams tank starts to smoke and then burst into flames. There is a good chance that the Lancet penetrated the armor and permanently disabled the American tank. Ukraine has so far lost 7 M1A1 Abrams tanks out of 31, mostly in the Avgyijivka-Oceretine sector.
The interesting thing about the recording is that it did not prove effective against the German Leopard 2s so much the Lancet as effective. More during last summer’s offensive video was also made about German tanks being attacked by these drones, more than once it took 2-3 hits from such aircraft to disable a Leopard 2A6. Compared to this, it seems that one hit was enough against the hidden M1A1, of course this tank is an older version of the M1, and several improvements have been made to the Lancet since last year.
