He’s become known for his innovative approach to music, blending genres and pushing boundaries, but what truly fuels his prolific output? And what draws him back to India, time and again?
A Rhythm of Creation & Renewal
Collier doesn’t believe in simply ”switching off” creatively. Rather, he views his output in seasons, recognizing the need for both intense activity and restorative periods. He’s spent the last four years touring extensively across Asia, Europe, the Americas, and now India, with plans for China and Australia on the horizon.
When considering a break, he offers a thoughtful perspective. “I think ther are seasons to different kinds of output,” he explains. He’s excited to shift focus next year, reducing the intensity of touring to nurture other aspects of his creative and personal life.
this isn’t a cessation of creativity, but a redirection. Collier describes himself as a “creative bubbler,” constantly generating ideas. Creating space for himself, he believes, will simply allow those ideas to evolve in new directions.
India: A Culinary and Cultural Magnet
Beyond the music, Collier’s current visit to India is driven by a genuine passion. First and foremost, it’s about the food. He enthusiastically recounts his previous experience, where he indulged in the vibrant flavors of Indian cuisine.
“The last time I was in India, I ate as much as I possibly could,” he shares, “and then everything tasted really bland when I returned to London.” He vividly remembers the “power and beauty” of the flavors, a stark contrast to the comparatively muted tastes he encountered back home.
He’s also eager to share the Indian experience with his bandmates, including Parijita Bastola, a singer of Nepalese origin, who is visiting the subcontinent for the first time. Introducing them to the culture and vibrancy of India is a key part of his excitement.
“I’m excited to get to introduce India to some of my bandmates who haven’t been there before,” he says. He anticipates a journey filled with fun,inspiration,and expansive experiences for the entire group.
Looking Ahead: Openness and Purpose
As his current tour nears its conclusion, Collier remains open to what the future holds. He’s driven by a desire to explore new frontiers, not just musically, but personally.
“There are so many frontiers that I feel excited to explore, not only just as a musician, but just as a person,” he reflects. He acknowledges the slightly daunting freedom of limitless possibilities,admitting,”I can imagine a lot of stuff.”
Ultimately, Collier’s approach is one of surrender and service. He plans to finish the current tour, take time for reflection next year, and then follow where he feels most needed. “I’d love to go wherever I’m most needed,” he concludes, embodying a spirit of purpose and artistic exploration.
