Father Sentenced to 30 Years in Death of baby Emmanuel Haro, Body Remains Missing
A California father has been sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in prison for his role in the death of his infant son, Emmanuel Haro. The case, marked by a fabricated kidnapping report and a history of abuse, concluded with Jake Haro’s sentencing, though the search for baby Emmanuel’s remains continues.
This tragic story unfolded over years, beginning with a concerning hospital visit in 2018.Emmanuel was admitted with severe injuries, including a skull fracture, multiple healing rib fractures, a brain hemorrhage, neck swelling, and a fractured tibia. These injuries sparked an examination that ultimately revealed a disturbing pattern of abuse.
A History of Abuse and a False Report
Initially, the couple reported Emmanuel missing, claiming he had been kidnapped.Though, inconsistencies in the mother’s account quickly raised suspicions among investigators with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. When questioned about these discrepancies, the couple ceased cooperating with law enforcement.
Subsequently, both parents were arrested at their Cabazon home.Prosecutors allege the kidnapping report was deliberately fabricated to conceal the truth about the child’s injuries and eventual death.
Jake Haro was convicted in 2023 of felony willful child endangerment. However,a judge controversially suspended his sentence,a decision sharply criticized by Riverside County District attorney Mike Hestrin. “If that judge had done his job as he should have done, Emmanuel would be alive today,” Hestrin stated.
The Sentence and Ongoing Investigation
Haro has already served 551 days and, due to the combined charges, will be ineligible for parole for at least 30 years. Prosecutors believe multiple instances of abuse and physical assault led to Emmanuel’s death, despite the fact that his body has not been located.
The mother currently maintains her plea of not guilty to charges of murder and filing a false police report. Her next court appearance, a felony settlement conference, is scheduled for January 21st.
“The lies told in this case only deepened the tragedy of Emmanuel’s death,” Hestrin said in a recent statement. “While today’s sentence represents a measure of accountability for Jake Haro, our office will continue to seek justice as the case against his co-defendant moves forward.”
Further Developments and Concerns for Another Child
In August, authorities conducted a search in Moreno Valley, accompanied by Haro, who was in jail attire. This search, unfortunately, did not yield any results in locating Emmanuel’s remains.
Adding to the complexity of the case, a 2-year-old child was removed from the couple’s custody.This action underscores the concerns for the safety of other children in their care.
