Reality television star Jordan Brook spent 22 days in the hospital following an emergency admission where doctors diagnosed him with both meningitis and encephalitis. The infection caused rapid brain swelling, acute memory loss, and a lasting limp, leaving the television personality to navigate a challenging recovery alongside his girlfriend Sophie Kasaei.
Emergency Hospitalization and Severe Brain Inflammation
The Only Way Is Essex star Jordan Brook faced a severe health emergency over recent months after an unannounced illness landed him in the hospital.
The viral attack severely impaired Brook’s neurological functions, leaving him unable to walk or talk during the initial stages of his illness. At the time of his acute care, he required a wheelchair and suffered from acute memory loss
alongside a range of other debilitating symptoms.
His partner, Sophie Kasaei, detailed the terrifying reality of his hospital stay during a recent episode of the reality television series. Kasaei recounted visiting him in the hospital just days after they had been planning a holiday to the Maldives and preparing for their baby’s arrival.
Sophie Kasaei shared via AOL that they had been going to the Maldives, noting that she had maternity shoots and 3D scans, they were doing the room up, and they were in the biggest bubble, before explaining that she went to the hospital days later and looked at him on the bed, where he could not even look her in the eyes and was just like asleep.
Kasaei explained that Brook was entirely non-verbal because his brain was swelling at an alarming rate, putting dangerous pressure on both his brain and his skull. She spent long hours sitting by his bedside from 9 a.m. until 10 p.m. every day, praying he would recover.
Lasting Physical and Emotional Toll of Recovery
Following a 22-day hospital stay, Brook was discharged, but his recovery remains ongoing. Kasaei opened up to friends about the psychological and physical changes her partner faces now that he is home, noting that the infection left lasting damage.
Sophie Kasaei stated via AOL that things were not the same and he was not the same, adding that he had scarring on his brain, with the front part of his brain being scarred, and that his moods would be really up and down, he would be really emotional, he would get quite forgetful, and he obviously had a limp now so he could not really do much.
Despite the stark changes in his mobility and temperament, Kasaei credited their unborn child with keeping Brook strong through the ordeal. Sophie Kasaei shared via AOL that she did not think they would have got through it without that little boy inside, explaining her belief that the pregnancy helped anchor him during the health crisis.
Navigating Fatherhood Amid Personal Doubt
Dealing with physical limitations and emotional fluctuations has made him question his readiness for parenthood.
Jordan Brook expressed via AOL that he was worried he was not going to be strong enough for his boy.
His friend Harry stepped in to offer reassurance, advising Brook to prioritize his own well-being rather than rushing his healing process.
Harry told him via AOL that he totally got it and understood he wanted to be there for Sophie, be ready for the baby to come, and be the dad he had always dreamed of being, but emphasized that he had to put himself first and urged him not to pressure himself into getting better because he did not want to make himself worse.
