Lonely Island‘s Jorma Taccone Details Harrowing Fall and Recovery
Jorma Taccone, known for his work with The Lonely Island and Saturday Night Live, recently shared a startling account of a serious accident. He suffered a fractured pelvis and sacrum after a fall from a 20-foot ladder at his Connecticut farmhouse. The comedian recounted the incident on a recent episode of his podcast with Seth Meyers.
Taccone explained the incident stemmed from an ambitious art project. He envisioned a large mural on the side of his barn, aiming to illuminate it with lights. This required reaching significant heights, leading him to borrow several ladders.
Regrettably, one ladder proved especially risky. A neighbor cautioned him against using it,noting its instability and lack of proper footing. Despite the warning,Taccone proceeded, believing it would suffice for the task.
While hanging lights to accentuate the mural, the ladder gave way, sending Taccone plummeting 20 feet onto his backside. He vividly recalled a fleeting thought during the fall: “I’m going to die.”
the accident occurred on a particularly poignant day – his daughter’s fifth birthday. while acknowledging it wasn’t the ideal start to the party, Taccone maintained a characteristic sense of humor.
Following surgery, doctors anticipate a full recovery, estimating he’ll be walking again within three to six months. His co-hosts expressed immense relief that the injuries weren’t more severe, particularly avoiding a head injury.
The group playfully debated the appropriate timeframe for joking about the incident. Taccone, ever the comedian, quipped that the humor should be “instantaneous.”
Beyond the accident, taccone is also celebrating a professional win. His recently directed film, “Over Your Dead Body,” was acquired by IFC Films in May. A theatrical release date is forthcoming, adding another exciting chapter to his creative endeavors.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safety, even when pursuing creative passions. Fortunately, Taccone’s speedy wit and positive outlook are shining through as he navigates his recovery.
