The Catholic University suffered a hard blow this Tuesday. Like last year against Audax Italiano, the Crusaders were eliminated from the Copa Sudamericana in the round prior to the group stage. This time the executioner was Coquimbo, which won 2-0 as a result of an own goal by goalkeeper Thomas Gillier and a penalty goal by Nicolás Johansen, in a duel that was played at the Ester Roa stadium in Concepción.

The result was a failure and one of the first to recognize it was Juan Tagle himself, president of Cruzados: “Today the result that occurred is what was seen on the field. We assume it as a failure, we said it from day one. “It is a very big blow,” the boss began by declaring at a press point in the tunnels of the facility.

“It was a perfect crowd setting, there was no excuse and the team did not show the level to face a match of this nature. (…) What hurts us the most is sports, that this situation happens for the second year. We never liked the single party, but that’s the way things are,” added the leader.

Asked specifically about the situation of coach Nicolás Núñez after this setback, Tagle did not guarantee the coach’s continuity, in fact he maintained that they are going to evaluate it: “They are still the coaching staff, but in football you always have to be evaluating and after “In a situation like this, we have to do this work, but don’t ask me to do it now, it is an evaluation that we all have to do.”

Another who seemed very hurt after the defeat against Los Piratas was Fernando Zampedri: “I have no words. We needed to qualify and we couldn’t. We are going to fight at the local level, there is no other choice,” he said after the match to ESPN.

“Apologize to the fans, another year without international cups. “We are very hurt,” concluded the striker of the strip.
