Kathryn Mohr Announces New Album, Carve
Oakland-based songwriter and field recordist Kathryn Mohr will release her second full-length album, Carve, on April 17, 2026, via The Flenser. The announcement coincides with the release of the album’s lead single, “Property.”
Inspiration and Creation of Carve
“Property” emerged from a collection of “amalgamation of dream images and visions” experienced by Mohr throughout 2025.The song is also inspired by a hidden urban landscape - an underground waterway Mohr discovered beneath the city. She describes the experience of exploring this space, including climbing ladders to access vantage points.
Carve follows Mohr’s critically acclaimed 2025 debut full-length album, Waiting Room. Mohr spent five years writing the 12 songs that comprise Carve, culminating in a recording session in the Mojave Desert. Mixing was handled by Richard Chowenhill, guitarist for agriculture.
Mohr describes Carve as an exploration of how memory is externalized through landscapes and locations, and how love can manifest as both grief and intimacy.
