Morocco’s coastal and artisanal fisheries experienced a complex year in 2025, with overall landings declining nationally despite significant gains at the port of Laâyoune. The Office National des Pêches (ONP) reported a 17% increase in landings at Laâyoune, reaching 209,954 tonnes, but a 15% decrease nationally to 1,132,801 tonnes .
Laâyoune Port Sees Strong Growth
The port of Laâyoune demonstrated robust performance, with the value of landings increasing by 5% to approximately 1.56 billion Moroccan dirhams (MMDH), compared to over 1.48 MMDH in the previous year. This growth was largely driven by a 28% surge in pelagic fish landings, reaching 176,688 tonnes and a value of 691 million dirhams (MDH), a 21% increase from 2024 .
National Trends and Species-Specific Performance
Despite the positive results at Laâyoune,the national picture reveals a downturn in overall landings. The total value of landings across Morocco decreased by 4% to over 10.11 MMDH. Examining specific species reveals further nuance:
