Director Marie Kreutzer is following her 2022 Empress Elisabeth biopic Deadline with one of the films on the fall calendar. The new feature centers on Lucy, an experimental concert pianist portrayed by Léa Seydoux, whose quiet family life in a rural Bavarian farmhouse shatters overnight.
The story kicks into motion when a specialized police unit led by Detective Kühn, played by Deadline, arrives at the family’s home. Officers seize the digital devices belonging to Lucy’s husband, Philip, played by Deadline, and uncover thousands of child pornography files. The discovery exposes a hidden double life that upends the household overnight, forcing Lucy to protect her young son while questioning her entire reality.
Real-World Parallels and Festival Reception
Kreutzer’s narrative draws inspiration from a prominent Austrian scandal involving Florian Teichtmeister, who was arrested and pleaded guilty to possessing 76,000 illicit files across 22 devices following the release of Deadline. That real-world case outraged the public when the prominent cultural figure received a suspended sentence, ultimately tarnishing Kreutzer’s previous film and pulling it from circulation.
