On Friday, August 7, the Liepāja Beach Tennis League wrapped up its 2026 season with a distinct shift in format, drawing 44 competitors to the sand for a series of demanding singles matches. According to tournament director Ģirts Antonovs, the final event of the five-stage summer calendar departed from standard doubles play to test athletes in individual women’s and men’s brackets across Advanced and Intermediate tiers.
The closing tournament drew 13 women and 10 men into the Advanced division, while the Intermediate bracket featured 11 women and 10 men. Organized by the association “BT Liepāja” with backing from the Liepāja municipality, the Liepāja Olympic Center, SIA “Teniss”, and marketing agency Fortius, the league serves as a fixture of the coastal city’s summer athletic calendar.
Advanced and Intermediate Singles Champions Crowned
In the Advanced women’s singles bracket, Madara Berga claimed the top spot on the final day by defeating Ilze Mikne-Šaudini in the championship match. Sanita Punga secured third place. Meanwhile, the Advanced men’s title went to Artis Zombergs, who outpaced tournament director Ģirts Antonovs in the final. Mārtiņš Ivanovs rounded out the podium by winning the third-place playoff.
Competition in the Intermediate division proved equally competitive. Andra Štāle captured the women’s gold, holding off runner-up Terēze Gāliņa, while Zane Sokolova took third place. In the men’s Intermediate draw, Elvis Beļusovs emerged victorious after defeating Jānis Segliņš in the final. Gatis Jansons captured the third-place position.
Season-Long Standings and Overall Champions
Following the conclusion of all five summer stages, final league rankings were tallied based on cumulative performance. In the Advanced women’s category, Sanita Punga captured the overall championship crown with 197 points. Madara Berga finished a close second with 195 points, and Ilze Mikne-Šaudine took third with 192 points, according to league records.
Zane Sokolova led the Intermediate women’s overall standings with 197 points, narrowly edging out Terēze Gāliņa, who finished second with 196 points. Kristīne Jansone secured third place with 190 points. In the Advanced men’s division, Artis Zombergs claimed the overall title by accumulating 200 points, closely followed by Ģirts Antonovs with 199 points, and Mārtiņš Ivanovs in third with 194 points. Jānis Segliņš topped the Intermediate men’s standings with 197 points, followed by Edgars Cinovskis with 193 points and Gatis Jansons with 192 points.
Looking Ahead to Upcoming Liepāja Championships
Although the Liepāja Beach Tennis League has concluded its 2026 run, local competition on the sand continues. Organizers have turned their focus to the upcoming Liepāja Beach Tennis Championships, scheduled for August 15. Registration for the championship event remains open through August 14 at 17:00 via the Tournated tournament platform, where participants can also review official competition regulations.
