Lula’s trip to Africa is on the African Union summit agenda –

The President of Brazil, Lula da Silva, traveled this Monday, 12th, for visits to Egypt and Ethiopia, host of the African Union summit, taking place on February 15, 2024, in Addis Ababa.

This is Lula’s second official visit to the African continent, since he resumed the presidency in 2023. The first trip took place in August last year when he visited Angola, Mozambique and South Africa.

Today’s agenda includes meetings with the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and other authorities in the country. He will also participate in a business forum with the aim of strengthening commercial relations between Brazil and Egypt.

Next, according to Palácio do Planalto, Lula will travel to Ethiopia, where he will participate as a guest at the 37th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union, which will bring together leaders from 55 African countries to discuss topics such as economic development, security and integration regional.

To date, the Angolan Presidency has not yet confirmed João Lourenço’s participation in the African Union summit. O Kianda’s Mail is making efforts to obtain this information.

It is worth remembering that the African Union became an official member of the G20 – an intergovernmental forum made up of the 19 largest economies in the world plus the European Union and now also the AU – this year.
