American pop star Madonna’s free concert on Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday evening attracted 1.6 million spectators, the municipality of this Brazilian city announced.

It was the last concert on Madonna’s “The Celebration Tour,” which began in October. During the tour, the singer gave 80 concerts in Europe and North America, while the concert in Rio de Janeiro was the only concert in South America.

Madonna, 65, performed the biggest hits of her career, including “Like A Virgin,” “Nothing Really Matters,” “Hung Up,” “Live To Tell” and “Justify My Love” at the concert on Copacabana Beach.

There were 18 scanda towers on the beach, as well as huge video cranes where you could see what was happening on the stage. People also watched the concert from boats in the sea.

Madonna fans came to the concert not only from all over Brazil, but also from many other countries.

Until now, the largest Madonna concert in terms of the number of visitors was an open-air concert in Paris in 1987, which was attended by 130,000 people.

However, Madonna has not managed to break the Copacabana beach concert attendance record. It belongs to the British singer Rod Stewart, whose New Year’s concert in 1994 was watched by 4.2 million people.
