A rescue operation has been launched in Nordland after a scooter driver failed to recover after driving from Sweden.

The police in Nordland state that at 10 o’clock on the night of Monday the rescue operation will take place in Hattfjelldal in Helgeland, on the Swedish side of the border.

They received a message from the scooter driver’s relatives at 8.58pm on Sunday evening, operations manager Ina Selfors tells VG.

The scooter driver, who is Norwegian, is said to have driven from Sweden, and has not turned up at the expected place.

– The search is still ongoing, and we are on both the Swedish and Norwegian sides of the border, says the operations manager to VG around 04.50.

Norwegian police are coordinating the work, while Norwegian volunteers from Norwegian People’s Aid and the Red Cross are also searching on the Swedish side of the border.

The armed forces are assisting with personnel and scooters.

She says that so far they have not been able to use a helicopter in the search because of the weather conditions. There are also some challenges with coverage in the area.
