Margot Robbie Describes ‘Wuthering heights’ as a Doomed Romance with Jacob Elordi
Margot Robbie, star of teh acclaimed film Barbie, has described her upcoming romantic drama Wuthering Heights as a profoundly tragic love story. In a recent interview with Reuters, Robbie detailed the complex and ultimately doomed relationship between her character, Cathy, and Heathcliff, portrayed by actor Jacob Elordi. She believes the pair are “just a couple who are doomed,” highlighting the destructive motivations and actions that define their connection in this new adaptation.
Warner Bros. Pictures will release Wuthering Heights, directed by British filmmaker Emerald Fennell, worldwide on February 11th, coinciding with Valentine’s Day. The film offers a fresh take on Emily Brontë’s enduring literary classic, a tale that has captivated audiences and inspired countless interpretations across film, theatre, music, and literature since its publication in 1847.
The story centers on the intricate relationship between Cathy and Heathcliff, forged in childhood loyalty but fractured by societal constraints, class divisions, and their own self-destructive impulses. The narrative begins with Cathy’s father adopting Heathcliff into their household, setting in motion a passionate yet ultimately tragic course.
Robbie also noted a personal connection to the project, playfully pointing out the irony of two Australian actors – herself and Elordi – portraying iconic English characters. “It’s funny that we’re from Queensland and playing these very famous English characters, but here we are,” she remarked, referencing her and Elordi’s home state in northeastern Australia.
Wuthering Heights promises to be a compelling and emotionally charged exploration of a timeless love story, offering a new generation the chance to experience the raw intensity and enduring power of Brontë’s masterpiece.
