A significant part of the collective layoffs currently taking place were reported last year. There are actually a lot of them. We are closely watching these processes, said Agnieszka Dziemianowicz-Bąk, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Policy on Friday.

The head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy was asked in Program I of Polish Radio, among others: about recent reports on group layoffs in companies.

A significant part of the group layoffs taking place at the moment are announced layoffs, reported last year. In fact, there are a lot of these group layoffs

– she admitted.

Comfort?

She also noted that Poland remains a country with one of the lowest levels of unemployment in the European Union. According to the latest Eurostat data, the unemployment rate in Poland was 2.9% in February, the same as in January. The average unemployment rate in EU countries is 5.9%.

Regardless of this, all group dismissal processes must be carefully monitored and we, as the ministry, monitor these processes

– said Dziemianowicz-Bąk.

She reminded that in the event of group dismissal, employees are entitled to, for example, severance pay. Its amount depends on the years worked in a given company.

She informed that the ministry is working on a draft act on the labor market and public employment services, which will introduce innovative mechanisms for activating the unemployed.

Today, the Polish labor market is facing the challenge of a lack of workers in some industries and the need to activate or include groups in this market that still have such potential.

– noted the head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.

In this context, she mentioned, among others: people with disabilities and older people.

We include in this act, for example, incentives for employers to create favorable working conditions for older people

– announced Dziemianowicz-Bąk.

What about mandate contracts and contracts for specific work?

The minister also asked about the payment of contributions for mandate contracts and contracts for specific work.

We are talking about the implementation of the milestone that Poland has included in the National Reconstruction Plan, but we are also talking about tools to counteract segmentation in the labor market, or, as it is popularly called, counteracting de-semitism in the labor market.

– said Dziemianowicz-Bąk.

She explained that junk contracts are those that replace employment contracts where they should be concluded.

She added that the goal is also to provide people on mandate contracts with a decent pension.

The bill is being prepared. It should be submitted for extensive public consultations in the near future

– informed the minister.

She emphasized that the changes will enter into force in time for employers to adequately prepare for them.

When asked if she was considering running for the European Parliament, she replied: “I will not run in the European elections, I am 100% focused on on work in the ministry.

Merely confirming the existence of a phenomenon is not enough. Will the government take concrete action to address it? Unfortunately, we don’t know this.
