Atlanta heavy metal band Mastodon has officially announced their upcoming studio album, Marrow Deep, scheduled for release on August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings. The record marks the group’s first full-length effort in five years, following their 2021 release Hushed and Grim. To coincide with the announcement, the band shared the lead single “Snakes For Dinner,” which features a guest vocal appearance by Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.
The album announcement arrives as the band navigates a period of significant transition. According to the band’s official statements, Marrow Deep draws thematic inspiration from the Three Fates of Greek mythology and serves as a reflection of the personal challenges faced by members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders, and Bill Kelliher in recent years. The project also introduces guitarist Nick Johnston and keyboardist João Nogueira as key contributors to the band’s evolving sound.
Collaborations and Musical Direction
The lead single, “Snakes For Dinner,” marks a notable reunion between Mastodon and Josh Homme. This track represents Homme’s first appearance on a Mastodon recording since his contribution to the song “Colony of Birchmen” on the 2006 album Blood Mountain. Homme is also featured in the official music video for the new single, which is currently available for viewing across major streaming platforms.
In an official statement regarding the creative energy behind the new record, Troy Sanders expressed optimism about the band’s current trajectory. “Bill, Brann, and myself are thrilled that we still have the opportunity to do this, and we’ve got other members who are just over the moon to be in the band with us,” Sanders stated. He added that the collaborative environment feels reminiscent of the band’s early days, characterized by a renewed sense of hunger and unity among the members.
Album Tracklist and Production
The 12-track collection explores the band’s recent experiences and is expected to feature additional guest appearances yet to be fully disclosed. The confirmed tracklist for Marrow Deep is as follows:

- Barbarians Blood
- Poisonous Weapons
- Your Ghost Again
- Snakes For Dinner
- Out Like a Lamb
- In the Ruins
- They’re Coming For You
- Golden Spires
- Moth and Bone
- A Vampire’s Demeanor
- The Vanishing
- The Three Fates
The inclusion of “Your Ghost Again” as a track is notable, as it was released as a standalone single last month. It served as the first new music from the group following the death of former guitarist Brent Hinds, who passed away last August at the age of 51 following a motorcycle accident. The band’s transition has been closely followed by fans, particularly following the 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony, where public discourse emerged regarding the omission of Hinds from the event’s ‘In Memoriam’ segment.
