Motorola Moto G24 Power – where is the power?

The action is great, the hardware is weak, from which one could infer a long operating time. Is it really so?

Box contents, exterior

Motorola already had a particularly successful model with a huge battery and economical hardware, last year the Moto G54 Power Edition. We expected roughly the same from the Moto G24 Power, the 6000 mAh battery promises quite a few hours of screen time. On the other hand, the hardware here is only weak, but unfortunately not economical, so the operating time of the G24 Power is at the average level of mobiles equipped with a smaller battery but a more advanced chip. However, fortunately, it did not become thick or disturbingly large, even despite the large battery, with its 163.5 x 74.5 x 9 millimeters and 197 grams, it falls within the HUF 63,000 category average.

The box contains a 33-watt wall adapter with a USB-A connector, a USB-C charging cable, a protective case and a SIM pin, the only thing missing is the foil, and headphones of any brand can be connected via the 3.5 mm connector to the Moto into G24 Power. We can be satisfied with the contents of the packaging at this price.

Likewise, the exterior does not disappoint either, because even though the frame and the back are made of plastic, the phone is well put together and does not creak even when pressed harder. The cameras protrude minimally from the back, the device does not wobble on a flat surface. The back cover slides a little, but the case solves this problem. We had the ink blue model, the frame and back of which shimmer slightly depending on the angle of incidence of the light.

On the right side of the frame, there is a volume control button and a power button, the latter with an integrated fingerprint scanner. Its accuracy is good, and it can be set to respond to touch or pressure. And with the 8 megapixel front camera that pierces the display, we also have the option of setting up 2D face recognition.

At the top of the frame is the Dolby Atmos inscription and a 3.5 mm connector, at the bottom is a USB 2.0 Type-C connector and a media speaker. Dolby Atmos already suggests that it is a device that sounds in stereo, and it really is, the speech speaker built into the frame surrounding the display and the media speaker work together to play sounds.

On the left side of the frame, there is only one tray that can be opened with a pin, and two nanoSIM cards and a microSD can be placed on it at the same time. By the way, only the model with 8 GB of memory and 256 GB of internal storage is sold in Hungary, but Motorola also produces 4/128 and 8/128 GB versions of the phone. If we open the tray, the rubber insulation can be seen on it, don’t let this mislead us, the G24 Power does not have a rating higher than IPx2, despite the fact that the manufacturer says that the design is water-repellent.

The display is an IPS LCD panel with a diagonal of 6.56 inches, with a significant amount of coffee around it, especially at the bottom. That wouldn’t be a problem, but 720 x 1612 pixels (267 ppi) is a bit small for this size panel, you can see the pixels by leaning closer, it doesn’t provide perfect sharpness. The brightness is acceptable from an LCD display, although we have seen higher values from Motorola phones in this price segment (e.g. Moto G22). If we don’t want to use it under direct sunlight, we won’t have a problem with it, only with narrow viewing angles.

How do we measure the display?

[+]

What is more disturbing is that the minimum brightness of the panel is very high, we can help a little by turning on this dark mode and eye-friendly mode. The calibration is basically bluish, we can change this in the color temperature menu, as well as lower the 90 Hz update to a fixed 60 Hz, or let the software switch between the two values. This works fine, the automatic brightness adjustment is less reliable, even though there is a regular ambient light sensor, the software also randomly raises and lowers the brightness.
