After Fernando Santos’ departure from coaching the Portuguese national team, after the 2022 World Cup, José Mourinho’s name was associated with the corner team, before Roberto Martínez was hired. “Portugal, it’s normal. I had this opportunity twice, but they didn’t reach me at the right time. I was emotional when I rejected this last proposal, because I decided to stay at Roma and I think I made a mistake”, said the coach.
The coach’s refusal was related to the fact that he was at Roma. “Portugal has a fantastic team, one of the best, it’s in the top 5. I knew that, but I felt a great connection with Roma, with the fans, and I didn’t want to have to make that decision.”
