Mozambique approves extradition agreement with Rwanda –

The extradition agreement with Rwanda was definitively approved by the Mozambican parliament, with votes in favor of Frelimo, the party in power, and against Renamo and MDM, the opposition.

The Proposed Resolution that Ratifies the Extradition Agreement between Mozambique and Rwanda passed today with 168 votes from the Front for the Liberation of Mozambique (Frelimo), while, with a total of 42 votes, the Mozambican National Resistance (Renamo), the main opposition party, and the Mozambique Democratic Movement (MDM), third party, rejected the document.

The Minister of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs, Helena Kida, who defended the agreement on behalf of the executive, said last week, during the general vote, that the understanding is not aimed at “political persecution”, but only atprevent “the country from being a refuge for dishonest people involved in committing crimes in one country or another”.
