National strike could start in March, union centrals guarantee –

The national strike can be declared on March 9th of the current year, after the collection of signatures for its implementation begins this Sunday.

The information was revealed by UNTA – Confederação Sindical, in agreement with CGCILA and Força Sindical, in an event that took place today, in the city of Luena, province of Moxico.

Avelino Calunga said on the sidelines of the workers’ assembly in that region of the country that the collection of signatures will continue until March 5th.

The head of the General Central of Independent and Free Trade Unions of Angola (SGSILA) justified that the strike, if interpolated, could be declared due to the lack of response from the Executive, taking into account the non-compliance with the points contained in the demand book delivered to employer entity.

Commenting on the matter, analyst Daniel Pereira is of the opinion that the unions allegedly do not have the capacity to mobilize a considerable number to paralyze the country.

Political scientist Eurico Gonçalves advocates dialogue and consensus, taking into account the financial limitations that the country faces resulting from cyclical factors.
