netflix has launched a new interactive feature allowing viewers to vote during live content, starting with the premiere of its talent show “Star Search” on January 20, 2026.
How the Live Voting Works
Subscribers can participate by selecting from multiple-choice options or rating performances on a five-star scale. Voting is accessible through both TV remotes and the Netflix app. Netflix’s system tallies votes in real-time, but participation is limited to the duration of the live broadcast; viewers watching replays cannot vote.
A Gradual Rollout
Netflix initially tested live voting in august 2025 with “Dinner time Live with David Chang” . Elizabeth Stone, Netflix’s CTO, announced plans for a wider release during TechCrunch Disrupt 2025. Stone explained the feature aims to make viewers feel more involved in the content, potentially influencing storylines and creating a more immersive experience.
“If you’re sitting at home watching ‘Star Search’ on your TV, you’ll be able to either on the TV or your mobile phone actually put in a vote that advances or doesn’t advance some of the contestants on the show,” stone stated.

Netflix has been actively expanding its live content offerings, including shows like “Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney,” “Dinner Time Live with david Chang,” sports broadcasts such as the NFL Christmas special,and WWE events.
