New Haikyu!! Movie “VS Little Giant” and Special Anime “Where the Monsters Go” Announced

An exciting development has emerged for fans of the popular volleyball anime Haikyu!!, with official confirmation that two new animated projects are set for release in 2027. The announcements include a theatrical film titled Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant and a special anime episode titled Haikyu!! The Giants’ Path Forward, both focusing on pivotal quarterfinal matchups from the Spring High tournament.

These projects follow the tremendous success of Haikyu!! The Movie: Battle at the Garbage Dump, which premiered in February 2024 and grossed over 20 billion yen worldwide, becoming one of the highest-grossing anime films of all time. The upcoming releases will continue the story of Karasuno High School’s volleyball team as they advance to the quarterfinals, featuring simultaneous matches at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on the same day.

The film Haikyu!! The Movie: VS The Little Giant will depict the match between Karasuno and Nekoma High, a longtime rivalry steeped in history and mutual respect. Meanwhile, the special anime Haikyu!! The Giants’ Path Forward will spotlight the clash between Fukurodani Academy, led by ace Kotaro Bokuto, and Kamomedai High, featuring the formidable Kiryu Shuichi. Both matchups represent some of the most anticipated moments in the series’ quarterfinals arc.

Production I.G, the studio behind the original anime series and previous films, is returning to animate both projects. Although specific voice cast details have not yet been announced, the returning creative team includes director Mitsumune Kansuke, who helmed the earlier movie. The official website for the franchise has been updated with new promotional visuals and a trailer featuring original animation cuts from the upcoming works.

Fans can access more information through the official Haikyu!! website, as well as the franchise’s verified social media accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok. The announcement was accompanied by a warming-up visual showcasing the characters in dynamic poses, signaling the intense athletic competition to approach.

As the release date approaches, additional details regarding voice actors, theme songs, and screening formats are expected to be revealed through official channels. For now, the confirmation of a 2027 release window provides a clear timeline for what promises to be another significant chapter in the Haikyu!! franchise’s ongoing success.
