Nvidia‘s $5 billion Bet on Intel: A Direct Challenge to AMD

In a surprising move that sent ripples through the tech world, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Intel CEO Lip-bu Tan jointly announced a $5 billion investment by Nvidia into Intel. This isn’t a bailout, they insist, but a strategic maneuver designed to reshape the competitive landscape – and directly target AMD.
The announcement sparked immediate speculation, notably given the complex political backdrop involving former President Trump and past dealings with both companies. Huang was speedy to dismiss any connection to Trump’s previous attempts to exert influence over Intel and Nvidia, including demands for a stake in each company and restrictions on chip sales to China (though recent reports suggest China may be easing those restrictions).
Furthermore, Nvidia maintains this investment isn’t a shift away from its commitment to the Arm architecture, despite its long-standing reliance on x86 processors.Huang emphasized continued support for Arm, stating the deal “doesn’t affect any of that.” Nor is it about changing manufacturing partners; Huang publicly reaffirmed Nvidia’s strong relationship with TSMC.

AMD is even becoming a compelling reason to choose a laptop, challenging Intel’s conventional stronghold.
