A 22-year-old man is in stable condition after being shot by police in the Briarwood neighborhood of Queens on monday morning. The incident unfolded after officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance at a residence on Parsons Boulevard near 85th Avenue.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m. following a report from a family member stating that a man was throwing objects inside the home ([NYPD News on X](https://x.com/NYPDnews/status/2015814854422995359?s=20)). Upon entering the residence, officers encountered the man in the kitchen.
Assistant Chief Christopher McIntosh of Queens Borough South command stated that the man instantly retrieved a large kitchen knife and advanced towards the officers. A family member attempted to intervene but was unable to restrain him. Officers repeatedly instructed the man to drop the weapon in an effort to de-escalate the situation.
