LOOK. The penalty moment in question

“We still have four or five matches to qualify for play-off 1.” Wouter Vrancken deliberately used the word ‘or’ on Thursday afternoon. Because in Genk they still assume that top team Anderlecht lost 2-1, just before Christmas, will be replayed.

That optimism doesn’t just happen. After the Disciplinary Council for Professional Football, the Evocation Committee also ruled in Genk’s favour. It not only stated that the Disciplinary Council is competent, but also that the substantive analysis made there is correct. Genk could actually have retaken the penalty – missed by Heynen, but on the rebound Sor gave Genk a 0-1 lead. As you know by now, the opposite happened and Anderlecht were allowed to restart the game with a free kick.

Only the Belgian Court of Arbitration for Sport (BAS) can now prevent the match between Anderlecht and Genk from being replayed. The BAS will consider the case next Friday (March 1), and the decision will be made no later than March 5. The reserved date to replay the match is Wednesday, March 13, a few days before the final weekend of the regular competition.
