Naples Celebrates Pino Daniele: A Musical Journey Remembered
Naples warmly embraced the legacy of it’s beloved Pino Daniele last night. A monumental tribute concert, “Pino è – Il viaggio del musicante,” honored the iconic “Mascalzone Latino” on what would have been his 70th birthday and the 10th anniversary of his passing.
The event unfolded in the historic Piazza del Plebiscito, a location steeped in Daniele’s history. It was here, on September 19, 1981, that he delivered a free concert to an astounding 200,000 people – a pivotal moment that launched him into superstardom.
Fiorella Mannoia, a celebrated artist in her own right, served as both artistic director and host. She was joined by Carlo Conti, guiding the evening’s festivity of Daniele’s profound impact.
The concert featured an notable lineup of Italian musical stars, responding to Mannoia’s call for remembrance. Emerging talent from the Musicante Award – including Bosnia, Rosita Brucoli, Rossana De Pace, Vittoria Sciacca, and X Giove – opened the show.
Following them, a constellation of established artists took the stage. Emma, Giuliano Sangiorgi, Elisa, Giorgia, Geolier, Mahmood, Salmo, francesco De Gregori, Diodato, Irama, Noemi, the Kolors, Serena Brancale, Raf, Ron, Rocco Hunt, Clementino, Alex Britti, and Elodie all contributed.
Notably, Enzo Avitabile performed alongside original members of Daniele’s band. These included Gigi De Rienzo, Ernesto Vitolo, Rosario Jermano, Tony Esposito, and Tullio De Piscopo, bringing a powerful sense of continuity to the evening.
The concert wasn’t solely about music. Alessandro Siani, a renowned comedian, delivered a special appearance. A short video clip from a 2013 concert featuring Siani’s impromptu stage invasion added a touch of playful nostalgia.

Beyond the celebration,the concert served a vital purpose. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Progetto Preme of Open, an association dedicated to pediatric oncology and neuroblastoma research. This initiative aims to provide personalized and innovative care for children battling cancer.
