President-elect of Senegal promises to “fight corruption at all levels” –

Bassirou Diomaye Faye, the elected president of Senegal, promised this Tuesday, 26, to fight corruption and promote national reconciliation, after a serious political crisis that followed the postponement of the elections in February.

“I commit to governing with humility, transparency and fighting corruption at all levels”, declared Faye

In her first public intervention, Faye stated that she would strive “to rebuild institutions and reinforce the foundations of coexistence”, in the first public intervention since the provisional results showed a landslide victory for the hitherto opposition candidate.

Both the outgoing president, Macky Sall, and the former prime minister and ruling party candidate, Amadou Ba, accepted defeat and congratulated their rival at the polls.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye will become the youngest president of Senegal, after a historic victory achieved in the first round of Sunday’s presidential elections, and the fifth in the history of this West African country, with 18 million inhabitants.
