There’s news again for all fans of moving vinyl: Pro-Ject is launching two new turntables – both players represent a further development of the inexpensively priced successful T1 model. They go by the names Pro-Ject T2 and Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono.

Low-resonance glass plate and pre-assembled MM system

The Pro-Ject T2 has undergone numerous changes and improvements compared to the T1. For example, the CNC-milled chassis is now larger and should have greater stability. The entire chassis construction is free of plastic parts, says Pro-Ject, and the accurate manufacturing eliminates cavities or air pockets inside, which further reduces unwanted chassis vibrations. In addition, the glass plate of the Pro-Ject T2 is now stronger (10 mm in total) and heavier (1.7 kg) compared to the previous model. The specially selected isolation feet on which the T2 now rests also help minimize vibrations.

Tonearm and motorization

The tonearm is also new: its aluminum tube has been extended and now has an effective length of nine inches. The headshell is firmly integrated and not screwed, which has a positive effect on stability, according to Pro-Ject, and there is also an adjustable, spring-based anti-skating mechanism.

The belt-driven Pro-Ject T2 comes with a newly developed sub-platter, which, according to the press release, rotates on an “ultra-precise” main bearing (tolerance: 0.001 millimeters) with a brass bushing and hardened steel axle. For the drive, Pro-Ject uses an electronically controlled AC motor including electronic speed switching between 33 and 45 revolutions per minute.

Model differences, accessories and prices

The Pro-Ject T2 is ready to play ex works because it comes with a pre-assembled and adjusted Sumiko Rainier MM pickup, which is equipped with an elliptical tracking diamond and costs around 175 euros retail. It also seems pleasing that the record player is delivered with high-quality semi-symmetrical phono cables – and not with cheap strips.

The turntable can also be ordered with an integrated, discrete phono preamplifier (which can be switched off if desired) under the name Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono. Both models are available in black high gloss, white satin matt and walnut. Always included is a dust cover and a felt mat as a record support.

Prices:

  • Pro-Ject T2: 549 Euro
  • Pro-Ject T2 Super Phono: 650 Euro
