King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will appear together on Dam Square in Amsterdam tonight for the National Remembrance Day 2024. As in previous years, Máxima will appear in black, a color that shows respect and commitment. However, the look also contains symbolic meanings this year, during a commemoration with the theme: Freedom tells: prelude to 80 years of freedom.

Queen Máxima during National Remembrance Day

The ceremony starts with a memorial meeting in De Nieuwe Kerk, where Dido Michielsen gave the May 4 lecture and called for ‘mercy’. Singer Claude, among others, also speaks there in the presence of King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. The queen appeared in a dress with a black cape over her shoulders, as we previously saw her at National Remembrance Day.

The royal couple then continues their route to the National Monument on Dam Square, where they lay a wreath. On behalf of the Kingdom Council of Ministers, a wreath is laid by the Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, State Secretary for Health, Welfare and Sport and the Ministers Plenipotentiary of Aruba and Curaçao. After four years of choosing a cloakappears Queen Maxima this time in a long skirt from Valentino, which she also wore during the commemoration in 2020. She combines the skirt with a black blazer with a narrow belt at her waist and a pair of black boots.

She completes the look with a black hat by Fabienne Delvigne, with visible pearls in it. She also wears pearl earrings in her ears. The pearl is known as a jewel that is often worn during sad events and symbolizes mourning. We also saw the small handbag at previous commemorations on Dam Square. King Willem-Alexander chose a black and gray suit with a gray tie next to her.
