Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – February 3, 2026 – The Dominican Red Cross recently concluded an intensive Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) training course, bolstering the nation’s capacity to respond to emergencies and disasters. The course, which involved volunteers from various regional branches and specialized international technicians, focused on strengthening preparedness and response capabilities.
Project “Strengthening Disaster Preparedness in the Caribbean”
The training was conducted under the “Strengthening Disaster Preparedness and Response in the Caribbean – Phase I” project. This initiative, financially supported by the Italian Red Cross, aims to consolidate the Dominican Red cross’s technical expertise in providing safe water, basic sanitation, and hygiene promotion during emergencies, notably in the face of floods and hurricanes. International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies provides ongoing support for disaster preparedness programs in the Caribbean region.
