RELATIONS WITH LESSORS – Andry Rajoelina says he is confident

The President of the Republic returned from Kenya on Tuesday.

The President of the Republic has returned from his trip to Kenya. On X, formerly Twitter, he says he is confident about the outcome of his trip.

“I am returning to the country with confidence.” It is with these words that Andry Rajoelina, President of the Republic, concludes his tweet announcing his return from the summit in Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday. A confidence that he expresses regarding the consolidation of relations between the participants, in particular Madagascar and the donors.

“Africa is fighting against malnutrition. Madagascar is also experiencing the adverse effects of climate change. The IDA Summit strengthened our relationships with donors to collaborate in this silent fight. I am returning to the country with confidence”, published the tenant of Iavoloha on his X account. The President participated in the summit on the replenishment of funds of the International Development Association (IDA).

The IDA, one of the institutions of the World Bank, provides grants or loans at reduced or zero interest, intended for investment in projects catalyzing economic growth in developing countries. Madagascar is one of the beneficiaries of IDA funds. The Nairobi meeting was precisely aimed at convincing contributors to replenish the IDA coffers and increase contributions in favor of financing intended for African countries within the framework of the new IDA 21 program.

Satisfaction

Based on the enthusiasm expressed in President Rajoelina’s posts on social media, the heads of state and government in Kenya appear to be on the path to achieving their goal. “It is with immense satisfaction that I leave Kenyan soil after participating in the IDA summit,” he said on his Instagram account. He adds: “This meeting was a valuable opportunity to plead the cause of Madagascar, demonstrate our unwavering desire to develop our dear country and reassure donors.”

The tenant of Iavoloha also affirms that “our discussions have been fruitful and have strengthened our partnership with the international community (…)”.

In recent years, donor contributions to the IDA treasury have increased. For IDA 20, an envelope of 93 billion dollars was distributed among the beneficiaries. However, as Andry Rajoelina pointed out in his speech in Nairobi, this sum is much lower than the 2.4 trillion dollars invested in the military domain in 2023.
