It is an honor that very few Dutch restaurants have been granted: membership of Les Grandes Tables du Monde. Now De Groene Lantaarn (**) in Staphorst has also been admitted to this elite group of gastronomic monuments, in which only the very best establishments in the world are admitted.

During an exclusive gala dinner in Paris, in the famous Palais de Tokyo museum, patron-cuisinier Jarno Eggen and hostess and wife Cindy were congratulated by the greatest living chefs in the world. “An indescribable honor!” said Jarno.

In our country, only De Librije (***) in Zwolle and Inter Scaldes (***) in Kruiningen are part of Les Grandes Tables du Monde. Inter Scaldes has changed ownership. However, the question is not whether membership will be maintained, the number of Michelin stars may change.

Only two- and three-star establishments can become members of Les Grandes Tables du Monde, which has its own guide to its 192 members in 23 countries. Some top chefs then decide for themselves who among them can provide ‘unforgettable culinary experiences’ and therefore belong to the top.
