Government Russia said on Saturday (4/5) that his party had shot down four homemade ATACMS long-range missiles United States of America on the Crimean peninsula that Moscow annexed. The missiles were recently supplied by the United States government to Ukraine.

Reported by the news agency AFPSaturday (4/5/2024), the Russian Defense Ministry said it had “foiled” the attack overnight, but did not specify whether falling debris caused damage.

Earlier in April, the United States government confirmed that it had sent the missiles to Ukraine. This was done after the Ukrainian government urged the delivery of these missiles to be able to attack targets far beyond the front lines.

Ukraine used US-made ATACMS missiles against Russia for the first time in October last year. However, recently delivered versions of the missile have a longer range of up to 300 kilometers (190 miles).

Russia insists these missiles will not fundamentally change the outcome of the conflict.

The team Ukraine suffered from ammunition shortages, partly because of months-long delays in deliveries from the US. The delay was only lifted last month after the US Congress finally approved an aid package.
