Russia banned the export of gasoline for six months from March 1, announced Alexander Novak, the spokesman for the Russian Deputy Prime Minister responsible for energy affairs.

Russia previously implemented a similar ban between September 21 and November 17 last year to curb high domestic prices and end fuel shortages. The decision to lift the ban was made after the supply on the domestic fuel market was restored, and even a supply surplus was created.

At that time, four former Soviet member republics, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan, which, along with Russia, are the founders of the Eurasian Economic Union, were exempted from the decision.

The measure, which will come into effect from March this year, does not apply to the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, and two breakaway regions of Georgia supported by Russia – South Ossetia and Abkhazia.
